Bacalar

Bacalar, in southern Quintana Roo near Chetumal, sits on a long freshwater lagoon famous for its shades of blue and turquoise: the Lagoon of Seven Colors.

The town has a Spanish fort, San Felipe, built against pirates, and nearby are the Mayan ruins of Ichkabal. These photos show the lagoon by boat, the fort and the ruins from the air.
