Akumal

Akumal means "place of the turtles" in Mayan, and its calm bay is one of the best places in the Riviera Maya to snorkel with green sea turtles feeding on the seagrass.

The bay is a protected area: visits are done with a certified guide and a life jacket, keeping a respectful distance from the turtles. These underwater photos were taken on one of those swims.
