OK first I was shocked by the sheer size of the hotel - it is huge. It basically has about 20 regular size hotel buildings dotted around the grounds. The layout is well designed and thought out and almost every room seems to have a pool view as the pools snake around the hotel buildings in a fun manner. The noise was an immediate concern on arrival to my room and remained a problem for the whole trip. The concierge told me that two other families had complained about the noise the day I arrived and asked to change rooms. I was told the noise stops around 5pm and so I decided to stick around as I'd be out of the room most of the day anyway. The noise consisted of American style poolside entertainment - which is great if you want to experience a spring break party, loud music and children’s entertainment blasting from huge base speakers. There was a pool which I was told that was 'the quiet pool' and I decided to spend some time there. It was 'dead' as the free drinks bar was closed. I tried the hotel beach and more very loud canned music. The beach was actually OK to spend a day passing the time but they have blocks of concrete protecting the beach from waves and so it does get boring very quickly - again great if you have young children and need to watch them playing. I needed to lose weight and when I read from other reviews about the huge distances from one end of the hotel to the other thought it would be a great place to lose some weight walking. In 10 days I lost 12KG which is absolutely incredible! The hotel food was OK, but disappointing compared to the local restaurants in Playa del Carmon - which were superb. In addition to this the hotel buffet didn't give me a taste of Mexico - no taco's nothing! Their internet is far too expensive at $25 US a day - yes a day! It should be free. If you are from the UK and looking for paradise in the Caribbean you won’t really find it at the xcaret – it is for Americans
