Comments & Reviews about Be Smart Oasis Cancun Downtown:
First off, I paid $430 air and hotel for four nights so I wasn't expecting much.
Check-in:
Took five minutes as we arrived on a Thursday. They did give us a Queen when we wanted two doubles though. I walked down and talked to Irvin and it was fixed in another five minutes.
Room:
There was a musty smell in the room. It reminded me of my Grandparents basement/cellar years ago. Other than that it was a pretty standard 3-star Cancun Room. No frills, but I didn't pay for any.
Food: I realize there were lots of choices, but as we were always on the move I stuck to the buffet as you drop, eat and exit, in 10 minutes. It was a typical bland buffet. Comparable to a downtown Vegas Casino. I thought the Brazilian joint was adequate, but the rest in my group seemed to enjoy it.
Booze:
I really only drink beer so I was okay with the sole choice of Corona. I've seen others write that they were looking for Bud, Miller Lite, or another similar American beer. Stuck it up and take the Corona. You're in Mexico and Corona tops those bland selections any day.
I did have two margaritas when we went to Xel-Ha, and upon or return to the hotel I had one more and it was weaker. That was my only mixed drink experience.
Pool:
Nice layout. It did wear on me that I saw the same people spending hours at the pool bar without ever seeming to get out to urinate. As time went on I spent less time in it, and limited my time to the AM.
Beach:
This one is exactly as the other reviews indicate. Very rocky, but if you walk way over to the north (left) there is a swimable area. One day there were surprisingly large waves. A body board would have been nice, but they didn't seem to offer them.
Timeshare:
A waved my hand at them the first day and they never bothered me again.
As stated earlier, I didn't pay that much. This was just a long weekend trip. Be warned, this is not a great resort - merely adequate. Here's the tip; do your research before you book. This may come as a shock to some, but if you want a 5-star resort you have to pay for it.
I going to check that I would not recommend this resort to a friend. I'm only doing this because I'm going to go back to the small resorts in Cozumel from now on - like Playa Azul. Cancun in general is a little big for me.
