stayed at the Grand Oasis from Sept 5 to Sept 12 2009 with my family and all I can say is I had the time of my life!” The resort was beautiful and the people were great. I’ll give you a little break down of all the important stuff
Food:
By staying at the Grand Oasis you are able to use all the buffets and a la cartes that are both in the grand oasis Cancun and the oasis Cancun and the Grand Oasis Caribbean which is a bus ride away. There are about 7 a la caretes and 2 buffets and one a la carte you need to make reservations for called Careyes. This restaurant had the best food, their chocolate soufflé was AMAZING. We booked this restaurant twice as the service was incredible, the setting was calm and once again the food was great. I recommend the garlic chicken or rack of lamb. The food was generally really good. I have read reviews that say the opposite…but all I have to say to them is they must be really picky eaters. They had everything from seafood, all sorts of meat and cheese, breads, sushi ect. The most convenient was the 24 hour room service which is good if you’re up late after a night in the city and are hungry. They had a few snack bars that served hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. It was easy if you were by the pool and wanted a quick bite.
Bars:
Once again by staying at the Grand you are able to go to all bars on site. There were about 3 swim up bars that were usually busy and 2 other open bars near the pool. Definitely try a banana colada or Bob Marley. The main hang out spot in the evening at the grand was the VIP bar and you could only go there if you stayed in the Grand oasis. It opened at about 6 pm. That’s where a lot of the young people met before going out. Another great bar was the sports bar at the oasis Cancun. Once again people met up here before going out.
Rooms:
We stayed in a garden view room. The rooms were not spectacular, although we hardly spent any time in them. Just to get dressed, slept and took showers. If you want a nice room I suggest you pay extra and get a pyramid room. These rooms are well maintained and the views are awesome. The best part of the room was the mini fridges that they stocked up once per day. They give you two large bottles of water which come in really handy.
Pool: This is where we spent most of our time. The pool was HUGE and there are divisions to it. There is one side that most of the young people relax at that has volleyball net and they play other games throughout the day. If you want a more relaxed time at the pool the opposite side is quieter although there is no swim up bar there. There is a third extension to the pool that was not open during our stay, although 2 days before we left they began to fill it up, I’m assuming its useable now.
Beach:
The beach was nice to look at, but kind of dangerous to go in. We went in once, and noticed how rocky it was. From what I have heard most of the beaches in Cancun are rocky, although some people still enjoyed them. If you want to enjoy the beach then I suggest another destination. I have been to Cuba, and there the beaches are amazing as they are crystal clear and the waves are just right, although we did not mind the pool as we made great friend there.
Nightlife/Shopping:
By far the nightlife in Cancun is one of a kind. I have been to Las Vegas and Varadero and Cancun tops these places without a doubt. Coco Bongo is a must see and I heard the City and Bulldog are also really good. By staying at the Grand Oasis you are able to go to the up and down discotech on site and every Thursday they have a foam party which is incredible. If you are young and like to party this is the place to go. Transportation in Cancun is also really easy and safe. We used the local bus which cost $1 American to get to and from the city and markets. Cancun has some high end malls that sell some really expensive brands. We went to look around just for fun, although if you go up further you reach the flea markets that sell cheap souvenirs
Trips/Excursions:
I also suggest doing a trip, as it takes up one whole day. We went to Chichen Itza which is one of the 7 wonders of the world. During this trip they took us to a senote to swim in, out for lunch at a Mexican restaurant and to the stone pyramids. Other friends of mine did water activates such as snorkelling and swimming with dolphins and really enjoyed it. I heard the captain Hook trip on the pirate boat was also really entertaining.
In addition I would recommend tipping as you get really great service and the employees work extremely hard and deserve it.
