You should know before you go that this is
out in the middle of nowhere! It's 90
minutes from the Cancun airport, 40 minutes
from Playa and 20-30 minutes from Tulum. We
didn't mind since we went for R&R and a
great beach and it was PERFECT.
Food
Some was OK, some was good, but nothing was
really great. But what do you expect from
all inclusives and buffets? You get about
the same thing at some restaurants and then
you get stuck with a bill at the end. We did
not get sick!!
Drinks
Some people mentioned that the drinks were
watered down, but they were not at all. The
drinks were strong, especially after you
gave the server or bartender a tip (a buck
or two every few rounds).
Tips
We brought $40 in one dollar bills, which
ended up not being quite enough so we drew
out some more and gave tips in pesos after
that, but over all we spent next to nothing
considering what you would have to pay if
you had several days worth of bar tabs.
Service
We were also extremely pleased with the
service. Everyone there was friendly and
gave excellent service without exception,
especially Beatriz and Carlos at the Tequila
Bar!! Most workers spoke fluent English and
Spanish, and some knew other languages as
well such as German, French, Russian.
The room
The bed was comfortable (we saw some
complaints that it was hard, but it was fine
- not the Ritz Carlton, but I've definitely
slept in much worse!) and the rooms were
beautiful and clean. The maid took good care
of us and gave us special towel animals
every day, and fresh flowers in our room.
They gave us plenty of bottled water to use
for drinking and brushing our teeth etc. and
the "wet bar" was fairly well stocked (no
liquor, but it's not like we were drinking
in our room anyway).
Insects
We had 2 mosquitoes that got in our room but
other than that, we did not see a lot of
bugs anywhere at the resort. We brought bug
spray based on the recommendations of other
travelers but we never needed to use it.
Maybe this is based on the time of year?
There were tons of iguanas, maybe they ate
them all. :)
Beach and pool
The beach is the most beautiful one I have
ever seen!! Everyone there was raving about
the beach. There are tons of shady areas if
you are worried about getting sunburned.
Also the pool is wonderful, although it was
warmer than the Jacuzzis (be warned - we
didn't get in the Jacuzzis at all).
Entertainment
There is NO night life at all, but as long
as that is not what you are looking for, you
will be OK. You can also go up to Playa del
Carmen which is 30-40 min away, for more
nightlife options.
In conclusion: We loved it, cannot wait to
