Riu Caribe and Riu America Cancun Transportation from airport to Riu Caribe and Riu America Cancun: Rent a car at Riu Caribe and Riu America Cancun rental location
Comments & Reviews about Riu Caribe and Riu America Cancun: I stayed at the Riu Caribe for 9 days in August with my mother.
Our overall experience with the hotel was overwhelmingly positive, with a few exceptions.
Our room was beautiful-- the whole hotel is done in marble. We loved this! The whole room, and especially the bathroom was gorgeous. The fridge was well-stocked every day with huge 1.5 liter water bottles, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dos Equis (the only beer at the hotel), and Sprite, and they even threw away partially used bottles. Our A/C worked just great (the thermostat is on the wall down by the head of one of the beds) and was even a little cold. Our view was beautiful. Room 837 (I think) was the place to be.
Both my mother and I even enjoyed the firm mattresses. They are by no means concrete hard or anything like that. They're firm mattresses and trust me, your back will feel GREAT after a night on them.
The beach and pool are gorgeous. I'm not sure why people go to a resort to spend every day by the pool, but there are plenty of people who get the same spot every day. The beach is way more laid back and the water is cooler. Unfortunately, you do have to get your stuff down to both places pretty early to get a spot in the shade. There are always tons of chairs on the beach available in the sun, but the umbrellas go fast. Just switch off days and have someone go down and mark chairs. Don't be the people who don't show up until 3, though. My mom went down and had her coffee every morning and she said it was deserted until like 8:30, so no 6am garbage.
My biggest complaint was the food, which was a big deal for me because I like to eat well on vacation. Breakfast was great, best meal of the day by far. Enjoyed that every morning. Lunch and dinner.... ehhh... it's like low-end cruise ship dining room food. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special at all. Can't quite put my finger on it, but makes me want a big old plate of spaghetti and meatballs or something. Just kind of all blends together and nothing is familiar (to Americans.) Like... they have hotdogs and hamburgers, but why are they RED? What are those seeds in the nacho dip? Why is it so hard to find ketchup? This isn't real ranch dressing! How come the desserts are so truly bland and icky? (The ice cream is great, though.)
Just bizarre. The specialty restaurants are a huge letdown-- I wouldn't bother. Less to choose from and the Asian restaurant is just a buffet of what's available in the dining room. Go out a couple of nights!
The busses are easy to use and stop right in front of the hotel. 8 pesos and the driver makes change. Just be sure to tell him where you're stopping and sit/stand where you can hear. The Mexican people on the buses are also very friendly both in the tourist areas and out and will help if you're lost.
I think the thing the hotel could change is the A/C situation in the lobbies and especially the ELEVATORS. I know it's supposed to be open-air and such, but it really took away a lot of time I would've spent there. Who wants to sit around all dressed up and sweat??? The elevators are truly the worst though. Mini-ovens and millions of stops because people ride them ONE FLOOR DOWN! If they changed this, I would honestly visit this hotel once or twice a year or more. Reserve Riu Caribe and Riu America Cancun
